Stonebwoy Responds After Radio Presenter Says He Prefers Shatta Wale’s Personality

A short radio comment about personality has pulled one of Ghana’s biggest dancehall artistes into another public exchange online.

A comment made on radio about which Ghanaian dancehall star has the better personality has turned into a wider online argument, after Stonebwoy replied publicly to the presenter who made it.

What the presenter said

Kwabena Bobie, an entertainment presenter with Accra FM, said on air that if he had to choose between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy on the basis of personality, he would pick Shatta Wale. His reason, as reported by Daily Guide Network, was that Shatta Wale is a blunt artiste who does not allow himself to be bullied.

The presenter also suggested that he is disliked by some musicians, including those who present themselves as holders of doctorate degrees. Stonebwoy holds an honorary doctorate and is often referred to with the title in entertainment circles.

A clip of the remarks spread quickly on social media.

Stonebwoy's reply

Stonebwoy responded in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying the presenter had taken a swipe at him without cause.

"I hold nothing in my heart. I speak when I choose to, not when others expect me to," the artiste wrote.

He added that he could have responded with insults but chose not to, saying he respects older men and that he only replied so that people stop celebrating behaviour that, in his view, damages the country's moral standards.

The post framed his reply as proof that he is able to answer critics at any time, rather than evidence that he was upset.

Fans split in the comments

The response drew mixed reactions. A user identified as Shuga Raya argued that the presenter had not attacked Stonebwoy at all, but had simply praised Shatta Wale for speaking his mind and moving on.

Another commenter, Bra Phile, suggested the length and tone of the reply undercut the message. "If you were truly above the situation, why make so much effort to prove it?" the user wrote, adding that most of the comments under the post appeared to side with the presenter.

Why it matters

The Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale comparison is one of the longest-running debates in Ghanaian popular music, and it resurfaces regularly whenever a broadcaster, promoter or fellow artiste is asked to rank the two. For Ghanaians abroad who follow the scene through radio clips and social media, these exchanges often shape how the two camps of fans line up online.

Neither Shatta Wale nor Accra FM has issued a formal response to Stonebwoy's post, based on the available reporting. The source report does not indicate whether Kwabena Bobie intends to address the matter again on air.
