Lawyers for the fashion icon and her husband have issued competing statements as a domestic violence case sits before a court and police investigators.
A video showing Ghanaian fashion icon and actress Nana Akua Addo with facial injuries has spread widely online, triggering public outrage, celebrity commentary and duelling statements from lawyers for her and her husband.
The footage, reported by Daily Guide Network, shows her with a swollen lip and a cut below one eye, with blood visible on her clothes and the floor. Part of the circulating material shows her receiving treatment at a hospital. Many people sharing the clips have suggested she was beaten by her husband, Harold Duodu Norman.
Nana Akua Addo has not personally spoken publicly about the footage.
Reaction from the industry
Her manager, Dapper Jayden, posted a series of messages on Instagram condemning men who abuse women, saying people who "weaponise violence" against those they should protect do not deserve to be shielded by family or society.
Media personality Sammy Flex Baah also reacted on Facebook, describing the videos as heartbreaking and calling for more protection for public figures. "Celebrities do go through a lot too," he wrote.
The husband's denial
Lawyer Emmanuel Bright Atokoh, acting for Mr. Norman, has rejected the claim that his client assaulted his wife. In a statement, he described the circulation of the videos and photos as "a well calculated attempt to control the public narrative."
According to the statement, the incident shown happened in 2021, not recently. The lawyer said Mr. Norman returned home from an event, was accused of infidelity, and his wife attempted to stab him with a knife. He said Mr. Norman used a dressing mirror with wooden cladding to block the knife, the mirror shattered, and a shard struck her lip.
The lawyer further alleged that this was the third stabbing incident in the marriage, that earlier cases were reported at police stations in Nmai Dzorn, Spintex and East Legon but were withdrawn, and that his client took her to hospital at the time. He said the video was released five years later to attract public sympathy.
He added that a case titled Rosemond Akua Adobea vrs Harold Duodu Norman, Suit No. DM/0607/2026, is already before a court, with a parallel investigation at the Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). He also alleged she has avoided investigators since July 2026 over a separate domestic violence complaint involving the children of the marriage.
Her lawyers respond
Fafa Fianu of Nkrabeah & Associates, representing Rosemond Akua Adobea, known publicly as Nana Akua Addo, said the videos were leaked without her knowledge or consent.
The firm said the matter is sub judice, expressed confidence in the Ghana Police Service and the courts, and asked the media and the public to respect the family's privacy. It said she will respond to the issues at the appropriate time.
No court finding has been made on the competing accounts.
