Nsawam Music And Arts Awards Returns On New Year’s Day 2027

Nsawam Music And Arts Awards Returns On New Year's Day 2027

The second edition of the community awards scheme will spotlight musicians, actors and creatives from Nsawam and nearby towns, with build-up events starting in November.

The Nsawam Music and Arts Awards, known as the NMA Awards, will hold its second edition on January 1, 2027, organisers have announced.

The scheme is run by GH EVENTS, an events outfit led by founder Newman Kwaku Prince. It exists to recognise musicians, actors, media personalities, DJs, producers, fashion creatives, event organisers and other people whose work is pushing the creative industry forward in Nsawam and the surrounding communities in the Eastern Region.

Daily Guide Network reports that the first edition drew roughly 1,000 people, bringing together entertainers, business owners, community leaders and ordinary residents in one place to celebrate local talent. Organisers say they expect a bigger turnout for the 2027 ceremony.

What comes before the main night

The awards will not be a one-day affair. A build-up event called the NMA Nominees Jams is scheduled for November 1, 2026. It is designed to put nominees in the same room as fans and entertainment followers for a night of music and interaction ahead of the main ceremony.

The organising team has also planned a health walk, which they say is meant to encourage healthy living while giving community members a reason to come together.

A donation to the Nsawam Prisons, the medium security facility that the town is widely known for, forms part of the programme as the organisers' community give-back.

Call for sponsors

Organisers are inviting companies, corporate bodies and individuals to sign on as sponsors and partners for the 2027 edition. Their pitch is straightforward: backing the event gives brands direct access to a large local audience while linking their names to music, arts and community development.

The coordinating team working with Newman Kwaku Prince includes two organisers known publicly as Bill and Kofi Square.

Why it matters

Most of Ghana's established awards schemes are concentrated in Accra and Kumasi. Town-level platforms like the NMA Awards matter because they give performers who have not yet broken into the national scene a stage, a record of recognition and a route to sponsorship in their own backyard.

For Ghanaians in the United States and elsewhere abroad with roots in Nsawam and the wider Akuapem and Akyem corridor, the January 1 date is notable. New Year's Day falls inside the period when many diaspora families are home for Christmas and Detty December travel, which means returnees can attend without arranging a separate trip.

Organisers have not yet published the full list of award categories, the venue, or ticketing details for the January ceremony. Nomination and voting arrangements for the second edition also remain to be announced.
