Port Workers’ Football Tournament Ends With GH¢20,000 Prizes For Two Winning Teams

The fifth edition of the LCB Corporate Games brought 16 company teams together in Tema and Accra, with the organisers now looking to pull in banks, oil firms and schools.

Two teams walked away with GH¢20,000 each on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as the fifth edition of the LCB Corporate Games came to a close at Mexico Park, Community 2, in Tema.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Fire and Safety Team took the Tema Zone title, while the LCB Worldwide Ghana Football Team won the Accra Zone, Daily Guide Network reports.

How the finals went

The Tema final was tight. GPHA Fire and Safety beat the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) team by a single goal, 1-0, to lift the trophy.

The Accra final was anything but tight. LCB Worldwide Ghana ran out 5-0 winners over the Ghana Immigration Service team.

In the final Accra standings, LCB Worldwide Ghana finished first, Ghana Immigration Service second and Manna Team third. In Tema, GPHA Fire and Safety topped the table, the Ghana National Fire Service came second and Wilmar Africa took third place.

The money

Each zonal champion received GH¢20,000. The first runners-up in both zones got GH¢10,000 each, and the second runners-up GH¢5,000 each.

There were also individual prizes. The tournament's top scorer received GH¢2,000 and the best goalkeeper GH¢1,000.

Sixteen teams took part this year, eight in each zone, across several weeks of matches.

Who runs it and why

The competition is organised and fully funded by LCB Worldwide Ghana, a crisis management company that has operated in the country since 2017. The firm has been contracted by the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Health, to carry out fumigation and disinfection of cargo at Ghana's ports and at designated points of entry and exit.

The games were set up to build friendship and working relationships among companies, with a particular focus on firms in the ports and shipping industry — a sector that employs thousands of people in Tema and Takoradi and handles the bulk of Ghana's imports and exports.

Solomon Dwamena Aboagye of LCB Worldwide's Human Resource Department told journalists on the sidelines of the final that the tournament had met its goals year after year, and that the company wants to widen the field.

"We are hoping that in the next few years, the participating companies will be more," he said, naming financial institutions, oil and gas companies and the education sector as the kind of organisations the organisers want to bring in.

He added that LCB Worldwide Ghana expects to keep raising the funds needed to run the competition and to increase the prize money in future editions.

Why it matters

For Ghanaians abroad with family working in the ports sector, events like this are a small window into how corporate life in Tema is organised outside working hours. For the companies involved, it is a low-cost way to build staff morale and cross-company contacts in an industry where agencies such as GPHA, Immigration, the Fire Service and private operators deal with one another daily.
