Getafe Table Formal Offer for Free Agent Jadon Sancho

The former Manchester United winger has been without a club since the summer, and a mid-table La Liga side now wants him.

Spanish club Getafe have put a formal offer on the table for England winger Jadon Sancho, who has been a free agent since his Manchester United contract ran out in the summer.

The approach was reported by Daily Guide Network, which says the 26-year-old is weighing several options and that talks with Getafe may not be straightforward.

Why Getafe want him

Getafe currently sit 14th in La Liga, Spain's top division, and are also playing in the Europa Conference League, the third tier of UEFA club competition. A squad stretched across two fronts needs depth, and a free agent with Sancho's record costs no transfer fee.

The Madrid-based club have already been active in the free market. They have signed former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, the 34-year-old right-back who collected 27 trophies at the Bernabeu, including six Champions League titles. His deal runs to June 2027.

Sancho, for his part, is said to be open to playing outside England, though he has not ruled out other destinations.

A £73 million move that never settled

Manchester United paid Borussia Dortmund £73 million for Sancho in 2021. He never held down a regular place at Old Trafford and spent much of the deal out on loan, returning to Dortmund and then moving to Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The Chelsea loan, during the 2024-25 season, carried an obligation to buy. Chelsea instead paid a £5 million penalty to cancel that clause and sent him back to United after 41 appearances.

At Aston Villa last season he made 39 appearances under Unai Emery and came on as a substitute in the club's Europa League final win over Freiburg. That was his third European final in three straight seasons, which tells you his career has been closer to the top of the game than his critics often allow.

Keeping fit while he waits

With no club to report to, Sancho has been training on his own and posting clips of the sessions on social media.

He also made a visit to Flixton, a non-league side in England's North West Counties League. The club moved quickly to clear up speculation, saying he was not on trial there.

What happens next

Nothing is signed. Getafe have made an offer; Sancho has not accepted it, and other clubs may yet enter the picture. Because he is a free agent, he is not tied to a transfer window in the same way a contracted player would be, which gives him room to take his time.

For Ghanaian fans following the Premier League and La Liga from Accra, Kumasi or across the United States, the practical point is simple: if he signs in Spain, his games move to a new broadcast schedule and a new league.
