Coach Carlos Queiroz has widened his squad after fitness doubts over some of his first-choice call-ups for two AFCON qualifiers and a friendly against Morocco.
Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has brought in nine extra players for Ghana's next set of international matches, after doubts over the fitness of some of the players he originally invited.
The squad is preparing for two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the continent's biggest national team tournament, against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia. A friendly against Morocco is also on the programme.
Who has been added
Four of the new names are defenders: Jonas Adjetey of VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, Alidu Seidu of OGC Nice in France, Ebenezer Annan of Rapid Bucharest in Romania and Rockson Yeboah of Osasuna in Spain.
In midfield, Rahim Ibrahim of Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia joins the group.
The attacking additions are Brandon Thomas-Asante of Coventry City and Mohammed Fuseini of Derby County, both in England's second tier; Benjamin Tetteh, who plays for Kalba in the United Arab Emirates; and Felix Afena-Gyan of Igdir FK in Turkey.
Daily Guide Network reports that the call-ups follow medical uncertainties around some of the players named in the initial list for the assignments. The team management has not published details of the specific injuries involved.
Camp already open in Accra
The Black Stars opened camp in Accra on Monday, 22 September 2026, and training continued the following day as Queiroz stepped up work ahead of the three fixtures.
Opening camp early gives the technical team time to assess who is truly fit before the competitive matches begin. That matters more than usual here, because nine late additions means a large part of the group will be working together only in the final days before kick-off.
Why this one matters
The Côte d'Ivoire fixture is the headline. The two countries are near neighbours in West Africa and their meetings are among the most watched on the continent, so a qualifier between them carries weight beyond the points on offer.
The Gambia game is the second qualifier in the window. The Morocco friendly is not a qualifier, but it is a serious test against one of Africa's strongest sides and a useful measure of where the squad stands.
For Ghanaians in the United States and elsewhere abroad, the practical point is squad depth. Most of the nine additions play in Europe, and several are at clubs where they get regular minutes. A wider pool reduces the risk that one injury derails a qualifying campaign.
Queiroz has not yet indicated which of the new players will start. The final match-day lists will only become clear once the technical team completes its fitness checks in camp.
