The University of Ghana says no agent can influence admission decisions, as applicants begin checking their status online.
The University of Ghana (UG), the country's oldest public university, has released undergraduate admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applicants can now log on to the university's official admissions portal to find out whether they have been offered a place.
Alongside the release, the university has issued a clear warning: nobody can buy a place at Legon.
No agents, no gifts, no favours
UG management said its admission process cannot be influenced by any individual, agent or intermediary. Applicants have been told not to pay money, offer gifts or do favours for anyone who claims they can secure admission on their behalf.
The caution is a familiar one at this time of year. The release of admission lists usually brings out people who claim to have contacts inside universities and the power to change decisions. The university is urging applicants to use only official channels for information and enquiries.
For families abroad, this matters in a particular way. Parents and relatives in the United States and elsewhere who are funding a student's education in Ghana are often approached by third parties offering to "help" with admission from a distance. UG's position is that such offers have no standing.
Help desk opens on campus
To support applicants with questions, the university has opened an Admissions Assistance Desk at its Sports and Wellness Directorate on the Legon campus.
The desk started work on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and will stay open until Friday, October 2, 2026.
Opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The university said the service is meant for applicants who need clarification about their admission status or about the processes that follow.
What applicants should do next
The first step is simple: check the portal. The university has directed applicants to visit its official admissions platform, where they can see their status and information tied to their individual applications.
Students who are unclear about what their status means, or who run into problems with their application details, are the ones the assistance desk is designed for. Those who cannot reach the Legon campus in person should rely on the university's official contact channels rather than intermediaries.
Admission release is normally followed by fee payment, registration and residence arrangements. Applicants should watch the portal and official university notices for those deadlines, as missing them can affect a place that has already been offered.
For students in Ghana's diaspora communities, the two-week window of the help desk is worth noting. It closes on October 2, so questions are best raised early rather than left until the final days.
