The lender is tying its anniversary to solar power for 20 community hospitals and a customer promotion offering eight electric vehicles.
Fidelity Bank Ghana has opened a year of activities to mark its 20th anniversary, pairing the celebration with a social investment programme and a customer savings promotion that puts electric vehicles on the prize list for the first time.
The celebrations run under the theme "Twenty Years of Audacious Steps."
From discount house to universal bank
The institution started in 1998 as Fidelity Discount House with capital of US$1 million, as reported by Daily Guide Network. A discount house is a financial firm that deals mainly in short-term government and money market instruments rather than everyday retail banking. The company obtained a universal banking licence in 2006, allowing it to offer the full range of banking services to individuals and businesses.
Founder Edward Effah used the launch to recall the original ambition: a Ghanaian-owned bank of world-class standard that would support individuals and businesses while contributing to national economic development. He said that thinking has guided the bank's work in financial inclusion, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and financing for projects in energy, housing and healthcare.
Managing Director Julian Opuni framed the two decades as a series of deliberate gambles rather than steady drift.
"We did not get here by standing still," he said, adding that the bank had taken calculated risks, entered new markets and made hard decisions instead of playing safe.
Solar for 20 hospitals
The headline social commitment is the installation of solar energy systems at 20 community hospitals around the country. For facilities outside the main cities, unreliable electricity affects everything from cold storage of vaccines to theatre schedules, so on-site solar is a practical intervention.
The bank also announced a staff-driven programme called Impact at Twenty. Under it, employee teams are to deliver 20 community projects, log more than 2,000 volunteer hours and reach over 20,000 people, with health, climate action and staff home communities as the focus areas.
Double Double promo and the EV prizes
On the customer side, Fidelity has launched the Fidelity Jubilee Drive Promo, Double Double Edition. It runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 March 2027, with monthly draws and a Grand Draw in April 2027.
The prize pool is eight electric vehicles and GH¢340,000 in cash. Customers earn entry tickets by saving and keeping multiples of GH¢1,000 in their Fidelity accounts. Those holding GH¢2,000 or more get double tickets, which is where the "Double Double" name comes from.
Draws will be run by the National Lottery Authority, the state body that regulates and conducts lotteries in Ghana, using its Caritas platform.
It is the first time Fidelity has offered electric vehicles in a customer promotion, a choice the bank links to its interest in sustainable finance and cleaner transport.
What to watch
For Ghanaians abroad who hold accounts at home or send money to family, the promotion's entry rule is balance-based, so maintaining the threshold matters more than the number of transactions. No timeline was given for when the hospital solar installations begin or which facilities are on the list.
